Her fascination with the power of visualization to spark conversation led to the creation of Many Eyes with colleague Martin Wattenberg at IBM. The site is an open experiment on collective sensemaking and the impact of data analysis on public debate.

Alvin Toffler est un écrivain, sociologue et futurologue américain, né le 3 octobre 1928 à New York. Il l'est l'un des futurologues les plus célèbres de notre temps. Il est marié à Heidi Toffler, également écrivain et futurologue et qui participe étroitement à l'écriture de ses livres dont beaucoup sont devenus des bestsellers mondiaux.

Il travailla cinq ans comme ouvrier en usine après ses études universitaires, puis commença une carrière de journaliste en tant que correspondant de presse à Washington. Il enseigna également à l'université Cornell.

La Troisième Vague désigne une étude expérimentale du fascisme, menée par le professeur d’histoire Ron Jones avec des élèves de première du lycée Cubberley à Palo Alto (Californie) pendant la première semaine d’avril 1967, dans le cadre d’un cours sur l’Allemagne nazie. N’arrivant pas à expliquer à ses élèves comment les citoyens allemands avaient pu, sans réagir, laisser le parti nazi procéder au génocide de populations entières, Ron Jones décida d’organiser une mise en situation. Il fonda un mouvement nommé « La Troisième Vague », dont l’idéologie vantait les mérites de la discipline et de l’esprit de corps, et qui visait à la destruction de la démocratie, considérée comme un mauvais régime en raison de l’accent qu’elle place sur l’individu plutôt que sur la communauté. L'expérience de la Troisième Vague a inspiré le film La Vague.

Paul Baran (born April 29, 1926[1]) was one of the three inventors of packet-switched networks, along with Donald Davies and Leonard Kleinrock. He was born in Grodno (then Poland) and his family moved to Philadelphia in 1928. Baran did undergraduate work at Drexel University, obtained his Masters degree in Engineering from UCLA in 1959 and began working for the RAND Corporation in the same year.
